In-Hand Manipulation

In-Hand Manipulation is the ability to adjust and position objects around in your hand, without assistance from the other hand. There are 5 basic components to in-hand manipulation that the resources will address : (1) finger-to- palm translation, (2) palm-to-finger translation, (3) shift, (4) simple rotation, and (5) complex rotation. Often a child that lacks in-hand manipulation will awkwardly manipulate objects within their hand/fingers and will use two hands during a unilateral task.
