Sensory Shape & Writing Trays

A sensory shape & writing tray is a shallow container filled with a tactile medium that children use to practice writing letters, numbers, shapes, and pre-writing strokes.

The tactile medium placed in the tray may include sand, salt, sugar, dry rice, shaving cream, crushed Cheerios, or more!

Children use their fingers or tools to follow a visual guide to form specified designs, shapes, letters, or words in the material.

This multi-sensory learning activity promotes the development of visual motor skills, fine motor skills, handwriting skills, sensory discrimination, as well as early reading and math skills.
